KINGDOM Invitation: You are SALT & LIGHT [pt 1]

Jun 8, 2025    Wade Bishop

This week's sermon, part of our "Kingdom Invitation" series, explored Jesus' teaching in Matthew 5:13-16 about being "salt and light" in the world. Pastor Wade emphasized that as disciples, we are called to have a significant influence on the world around us, just as salt seasons food and light illuminates darkness. This influence is made possible through the power of the Holy Spirit, which we commemorated on this Pentecost Sunday. The sermon challenged us to consider how we can be Kingdom influencers in our daily lives and various spheres of influence.

Takeaways:

- Be the salt, not the food: We are called to influence the world, not be influenced by it. This means staying connected to Christ and maintaining our distinct "flavor" as His disciples.

- Bring the presence of God: In our interactions with others, we should strive to embody the fruits of the Spirit - love, kindness, forgiveness, and mercy. This may require letting go of things that hinder us from carrying God's presence.

- Don't lose your saltiness: We must be mindful of how we live and respond to others, ensuring that our actions don't give anyone a reason to reject Christ. Our wisdom (or lack thereof) in daily life can significantly impact our influence.

As we move forward this week, let's prayerfully consider how we can be "salt and light" in our workplaces, neighborhoods, and families. Remember, we have the power of the Holy Spirit to help us live out this calling!

May God bless you and empower you to be a Kingdom influencer this week.
